Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Fixed Line Telecommunications sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.22%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were DS Smith PLC (LON:SMDS), which rose 5.93% or 18.20 points to trade at 325.20 at the close. Ferguson Plc (LON:FERG) added 5.85% or 645.00 points to end at 11,670.00 and Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) was up 5.53% or 8.90 points to 170.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN), which lost 5.82% or 29.75 points to trade at 481.55 in late trade. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) declined 5.17% or 201.50 points to end at 3,698.50 and Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) shed 4.76% or 265.00 points to 5,299.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1257 to 659 and 416 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 1.29% or 25.60 to $1,959.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 6.85% or 7.49 to hit $101.84 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 6.14% or 6.92 to trade at $105.75 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.12% to 1.30, while EUR/GBP rose 0.75% to 0.84.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.29% at 98.90.
