Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Life Insurance/Assurance, Banking and Gas, Water & Multiutilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.36%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB), which rose 5.57% or 137.0 points to trade at 2598.0 at the close. Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY) added 3.27% or 45.0 points to end at 1420.0 and DCC plc (LON:DCC) was up 3.17% or 206.0 points to 6694.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Prudential PLC (LON:PRU), which lost 9.29% or 103.50 points to trade at 1011.00 in late trade. International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) declined 7.42% or 15.30 points to end at 190.80 and HSBC Holdings PLC (LON:HSBA) shed 4.99% or 19.90 points to 379.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1107 to 1024 and 140 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.73% or 12.55 to $1734.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 2.33% or 0.79 to hit $33.13 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 2.69% or 0.97 to trade at $35.09 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.45% to 1.2167, while EUR/GBP fell 0.07% to 0.8950.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.48% at 99.877.
