Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Tobacco, Industrial Transportation and Gas, Water & Multiutilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.42%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU), which rose 2.75% or 24.40 points to trade at 910.80 at the close. Severn Trent PLC (LON:SVT) added 2.73% or 61.0 points to end at 2295.0 and Bunzl PLC (LON:BNZL) was up 2.44% or 56.0 points to 2353.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which lost 6.11% or 23.10 points to trade at 354.90 in late trade. Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) declined 5.90% or 6.60 points to end at 105.30 and Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) shed 5.57% or 92.5 points to 1567.5.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1419 to 821 and 207 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.71% or 12.30 to $1725.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 6.79% or 4.18 to hit $57.38 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.10% or 0.06 to trade at $60.32 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.03% to 1.3755, while EUR/GBP rose 0.00% to 0.8615.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.66% at 92.350.
