Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Construction & Materials and Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.56% to hit a new 3-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Smith & Nephew PLC (LON:SN), which rose 2.18% or 29.50 points to trade at 1384.00 at the close. Sage Group PLC (LON:SGE) added 2.00% or 11.40 points to end at 581.60 and WPP PLC (LON:WPP) was up 1.79% or 20.50 points to 1165.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which lost 4.15% or 32.20 points to trade at 744.20 in late trade. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) declined 3.36% or 29.00 points to end at 834.00 and Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) shed 2.68% or 8.15 points to 295.95.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1186 to 863 and 319 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.22% or 2.70 to $1201.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 0.74% or 0.50 to hit $67.27 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.41% or 0.31 to trade at $76.19 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.02% to 1.2931, while EUR/GBP fell 0.50% to 0.8944.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.34% at 95.31.
