Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Automobiles & Parts and General Retailers sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.94%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO), which rose 9.69% or 117.00 points to trade at 1325.00 at the close. Micro Focus International PLC (LON:MCRO) added 1.65% or 18.40 points to end at 1132.80 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) was up 1.16% or 6.60 points to 577.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO), which lost 3.37% or 8.00 points to trade at 229.40 in late trade. J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY) declined 2.99% or 6.60 points to end at 214.30 and Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS) shed 2.92% or 5.85 points to 194.35.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1244 to 870 and 215 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.61% or 8.85 to $1469.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 4.46% or 2.59 to hit $55.52 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 4.01% or 2.54 to trade at $60.73 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.22% to 1.2939, while EUR/GBP fell 0.06% to 0.8518.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.10% at 98.185.
