Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Mining, Industrial Metals & Mining and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 1.11%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Aviva PLC (LON:AV), which rose 4.64% or 13.20 points to trade at 297.50 at the close. ITV PLC (LON:ITV) added 3.94% or 2.40 points to end at 63.30 and Mondi PLC (LON:MNDI) was up 3.12% or 44.50 points to 1469.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN), which lost 8.08% or 15.86 points to trade at 180.34 in late trade. Land Securities Group PLC (LON:LAND) declined 4.95% or 30.20 points to end at 579.80 and Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) shed 4.80% or 238.0 points to 4720.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1335 to 807 and 155 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for October delivery was up 1.15% or 23.40 to $2060.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.24% or 0.10 to hit $42.09 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.20% or 0.09 to trade at $45.26 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.36% to 1.3159, while EUR/GBP fell 0.19% to 0.9024.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.10% at 92.757.
