Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Forestry & Paper and General Industrial sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 1.41% to hit a new 1-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Intermediate Capital Group PLC (LON:ICP), which rose 2.53% or 43.00 points to trade at 1742.00 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) added 1.91% or 12.40 points to end at 662.40 and Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB) was up 1.45% or 27.80 points to 1950.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV), which lost 8.22% or 154.50 points to trade at 1725.00 in late trade. Surgutneftegaz L (LON:SNGSyq) declined 4.89% or 0.36 points to end at 7.09 and JSC VTB Bank DRC (LON:VTBRq) shed 3.84% or 0.057 points to 1.428.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1404 to 730 and 220 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.02% or 0.30 to $1583.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.75% or 0.91 to hit $51.23 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 1.88% or 1.08 to trade at $56.25 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.77% to 1.3195, while EUR/GBP fell 0.28% to 0.8398.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.43% at 97.290.
