Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Electrical sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 1.42%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV), which rose 6.19% or 104.10 points to trade at 1786.10 at the close. British Land Company PLC (LON:BLND) added 5.17% or 22.80 points to end at 464.00 and Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) was up 5.35% or 2.64 points to 51.98 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 12.21% or 129.70 points to trade at 932.80 in late trade. Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) declined 5.87% or 14.97 points to end at 240.03 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) shed 5.59% or 140.4 points to 2370.1.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1654 to 676 and 68 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.30% or 5.60 to $1845.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.68% or 0.36 to hit $52.97 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.45% or 0.25 to trade at $55.89 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.28% to 1.3695, while EUR/GBP fell 0.20% to 0.8831.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.56% at 90.653.
