Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Automobiles & Parts, Food Producers and Electrical sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 1.94% to hit a new 52-week low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Bunzl PLC (LON:BNZL), which rose 2.45% or 49.0 points to trade at 2050.0 at the close. Samsung Electronics Co Ltd DRC (LON:0593xq) added 0.60% or 7.00 points to end at 1166.00 and MMC Noril Nick (LON:NKELyq) was up 0.21% or 0.07 points to 32.72 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which lost 5.92% or 166.0 points to trade at 2639.0 in late trade. Meggitt PLC (LON:MGGT) declined 5.15% or 30.60 points to end at 563.80 and Tui AG (LON:TUIT) shed 4.87% or 37.40 points to 730.20.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1710 to 459 and 185 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 1.57% or 26.35 to $1650.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 1.85% or 0.95 to hit $50.48 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 1.85% or 1.03 to trade at $54.74 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.63% to 1.3009, while EUR/GBP fell 0.34% to 0.8363.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.36% at 98.922.
