Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Paper & Pulp, Railway & Bus and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 0.51%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Chiyoda Corp. (T:6366), which rose 5.63% or 17.0 points to trade at 319.0 at the close. Takashimaya Co., Ltd. (T:8233) added 4.23% or 47.0 points to end at 1159.0 and Astellas Pharma Inc. (T:4503) was up 3.87% or 57.0 points to 1530.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Yokogawa Electric Corp. (T:6841), which lost 3.19% or 67.0 points to trade at 2035.0 in late trade. Japan Tobacco Inc (T:2914) declined 3.18% or 79.5 points to end at 2423.0 and Tokai Carbon Co., Ltd. (T:5301) shed 3.09% or 35.0 points to 1098.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2287 to 1210 and 218 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0.00% to 16.37.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for August delivery was up 1.69% or 0.98 to $58.81 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September rose 1.26% or 0.81 to hit $65.09 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.44% or 6.25 to trade at $1412.45 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.25% to 107.44, while EUR/JPY rose 0.29% to 122.14.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 95.713.
