Investing.com - Core retail sales in Canada were unchanged from a month earlier in August, while total retail sales figures rose modestly, official data showed on Thursday.
In a report, Statistics Canada said core retail sales, which exclude automobile sales, were flat in August, missing expectations for a 0.1% increase. Core sales rose by 0.1% in July, whose figure was revised from a previously reported flat reading.
Total retail sales increased by a seasonally adjusted 0.5% in August, compared to forecasts for a 0.1% gain, after rising by 0.6% in July. The increase was led by higher sales at motor vehicle and parts dealers.
Sales increased in 4 of 11 subsectors, representing 56% of retail trade.
USD/CAD was trading at 1.3118 from around 1.3131 ahead of the release of the data.
