Investing.com – France equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Utilities and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 fell 1.59% to hit a new 1-month low, while the SBF 120 index lost 1.55%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the CAC 40 were Renault SA (PA:RENA), which rose 0.06% or 0.05 points to trade at 78.04 at the close. Safran SA (PA:SAF) fell 0.10% or 0.07 points to end at 72.73 and Unibail Rodamco SE (AS:UNBP) was down 0.13% or 0.30 points to 223.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included ArcelorMittal SA (AS:ISPA), which lost 6.18% or 0.441 points to trade at 6.690 in late trade. Carrefour SA (PA:CARR) declined 4.20% or 0.89 points to end at 20.30 and Valeo SA (PA:VLOF) shed 2.94% or 1.81 points to 59.67.
The top performers on the SBF 120 were Metropole TV (PA:MMTP) which rose 0.84% to 21.00, Klepierre (PA:LOIM) which was up 0.19% to settle at 37.20 and Natixis (PA:CNAT) which gained 0.17% to close at 5.419.
The worst performers were ArcelorMittal SA (AS:ISPA) which was down 6.18% to 6.690 in late trade, Innate Pharma (PA:IPH) which lost 5.73% to settle at 10.360 and Vallourec (PA:VLLP) which was down 4.56% to 5.860 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 574 to 89 and 63 ended unchanged on the Paris Stock Exchange.
The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was up 6.42% to 28.07 a new 6-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.07% or 0.90 to $1291.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.59% or 0.31 to hit $52.34 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.94% or 0.52 to trade at $54.84 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.55% to 1.0701, while EUR/GBP fell 1.02% to 0.8383.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.51% at 99.69.
