Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Gas & Water, Construction and Food sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.66%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Toshiba Corp. (T:6502), which rose 8.73% or 20.2 points to trade at 251.6 at the close. Sapporo Holdings Ltd. (T:2501) added 4.06% or 130.0 points to end at 3330.0 and Mitsui Mining and Smelting Co. (T:5706) was up 3.48% or 14.0 points to 416.5 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Meidensha Corp. (T:6508), which lost 4.25% or 17.0 points to trade at 383.0 in late trade. Meiji Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:2269) declined 1.94% or 180.0 points to end at 9120.0 and NTT Docomo, Inc. (T:9437) shed 0.75% or 20.5 points to 2715.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2256 to 801 and 312 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 1.95% to 16.07.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for July delivery was up 0.56% or 0.29 to $51.76 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in July rose 0.61% or 0.33 to hit $54.48 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract fell 0.22% or 2.70 to trade at $1252.80 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.04% to 111.82, while EUR/JPY rose 0.14% to 125.19.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.10% at 97.18.
