Germany stocks lower at close of trade; DAX down 0.76%

Investing.com – Germany stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Consumer & Cyclical, Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX fell 0.76% to hit a new 1-month low, while the MDAX index declined 0.70%, and the TecDAX index fell 0.46%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (DE:VOWG_p), which rose 6.21% or 7.700 points to trade at 131.750 at the close. Meanwhile, RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG) added 2.13% or 0.230 points to end at 11.010 and E.ON SE NA (DE:EONGn) was up 1.66% or 0.140 points to 8.565 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Adidas AG NA O.N. (DE:ADSGN), which fell 3.06% or 2.790 points to trade at 88.410 at the close. Deutsche Boerse NA O.N. (DE:DB1Gn) declined 2.08% or 1.640 points to end at 77.200 and Bayer AG NA (DE:BAYGN) was down 2.07% or 2.400 points to 113.600.

The top performers on the MDAX were Salzgitter AG O.N. (DE:SZGG) which rose 5.32% to 21.885, Aareal Bank AG (DE:ARLG) which was up 2.20% to settle at 29.790 and Leoni AG NA O.N. (DE:LEOGn) which gained 1.81% to close at 35.475.

The worst performers were Wincor Nixdorf O.N. (DE:WING) which was down 2.52% to 46.070 in late trade, Rhoen-Klinikum O.N. (DE:RHKG) which lost 1.89% to settle at 26.425 and Gerry Weber Internat.O.N. (DE:GWIG) which was down 1.74% to 13.015 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) which rose 4.33% to 48.150, Nemetschek AG O.N. (DE:NEKG) which was up 3.15% to settle at 44.965 and Cancom SE O.N. (DE:COKG) which gained 2.91% to close at 42.805.

The worst performers were STRATEC Biomedical AG (DE:SBSG) which was down 2.44% to 54.010 in late trade, Xing AG (DE:OBCGn) which lost 2.23% to settle at 175.100 and Qiagen NV (DE:QGEN) which was down 1.86% to 23.985 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 447 to 243 and 36 ended unchanged.

Shares in Gerry Weber Internat.O.N. (DE:GWIG) fell to 5-year lows; losing 1.74% or 0.230 to 13.015. Shares in SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) rose to 52-week highs; up 4.33% or 2.000 to 48.150. Shares in Cancom SE O.N. (DE:COKG) rose to all time highs; up 2.91% or 1.210 to 42.805.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 3.01% to 22.25 a new 1-month high.

Gold for February delivery was down 0.10% or 1.10 to $1074.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.32% or 0.12 to hit $37.39 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.29% or 0.12 to trade at $40.15 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.82% to 1.0981, while EUR/GBP fell 0.25% to 0.7244.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.75% at 97.68.
