Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Machinery, Mining and Insurance sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.29%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Taiheiyo Cement Corp. (TOKYO:5233), which rose 4.75% or 19.0 points to trade at 419.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Nikon Corp. (TOKYO:7731) added 4.70% or 71.0 points to end at 1582.0 and Daikin Industries, Ltd. (TOKYO:6367) was up 4.09% or 346.0 points to 8796.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Mitsumi Electric Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:6767), which fell 8.59% or 70.0 points to trade at 745.0 at the close. Konica Minolta, Inc. (TOKYO:4902) declined 8.52% or 134.0 points to end at 1439.0 and Ricoh Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:7752) was down 4.65% or 58.0 points to 1188.5.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 992 to 886.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 0.23% to 17.78.
Crude oil for September delivery was up 0.39% or 0.17 to $44.84 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in September rose 0.47% or 0.23 to hit $49.76 a barrel, while the December Gold contract rose 0.25% or 2.70 to trade at $1092.80 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.04% to 124.78, while EUR/JPY fell 0.04% to 136.19.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.11% at 97.98.
