Investing.com – Taiwan equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Paper & Pulp, Optoelectronic and Hotels sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Taiwan, the Taiwan Weighted rose 0.77%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Taiwan Weighted were Asmedia (TW:5269), which rose 9.93% or 27.00 points to trade at 299.00 at the close. Yuen Foong Yu (TW:1907) added 9.92% or 0.97 points to end at 10.75 and Falcon Power Co Ltd (TW:1516) was up 9.85% or 1.65 points to 18.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Transasia (TW:6702), which lost 9.52% or 0.08 points to trade at 0.76 in late trade. Yu Foung Intl (TW:1438) declined 7.82% or 0.340 points to end at 4.010 and Infodisc Tech (TW:2491) shed 4.45% or 0.35 points to 7.51.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 542 to 218 and 118 ended unchanged on the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for February delivery was down 0.15% or 0.08 to $53.18 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in March fell 0.25% or 0.14 to hit $56.32 a barrel, while the February Gold contract rose 1.16% or 13.55 to trade at $1178.85 a troy ounce.
USD/TWD was down 1.27% to 31.846, while TWD/CNY fell 0.18% to 0.2163.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.66% at 101.81.
