Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Energy, Healthcare and Materials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.06%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aimia Inc (TO:AIM), which rose 18.69% or 0.40 points to trade at 2.54 at the close. Fortuna Silver Mines Inc (TO:FVI) added 9.57% or 0.56 points to end at 6.41 and Westshore Terminals Investment Corp (TO:WTE) was up 5.73% or 1.13 points to 20.86 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Baytex Energy Corp (TO:BTE), which lost 6.95% or 0.31 points to trade at 4.15 in late trade. Secure Energy Services Inc . (TO:SES) declined 6.91% or 0.71 points to end at 9.57 and Canadian Energy Services & Technology Corp (TO:CEU) shed 6.80% or 0.490 points to 6.720.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 621 to 507 and 132 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.67% to 13.11.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.18% or 2.28 to $1255.38 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 4.93% or 2.53 to hit $48.83 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 4.76% or 2.57 to trade at $51.39 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.56% to 0.7417, while CAD/EUR fell 0.47% to 0.6617.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.20% at 97.14.
