Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Power, Banking and Fast Moving Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.04%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.04%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tata Power Co. Ltd (NS:TTPW), which rose 5.51% or 4.30 points to trade at 82.10 at the close. Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO) added 3.33% or 15.05 points to end at 467.40 and Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS) was up 2.32% or 25.95 points to 1143.25 in late trade.
Biggest losers included POWER GRID CORPORATION OF INDIA (NS:PGRD), which lost 1.93% or 4.10 points to trade at 208.30 in late trade. Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) declined 1.92% or 547.20 points to end at 27917.40 and Lupin Ltd (NS:LUPN) shed 1.67% or 18.85 points to 1112.85.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which rose 3.28% to 467.15, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was up 1.60% to settle at 168.70 and Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which gained 1.54% to close at 943.80.
The worst performers were POWER GRID CORPORATION OF INDIA (BO:PGRD) which was down 2.00% to 208.15 in late trade, Lupin Ltd (BO:LUPN) which lost 1.63% to settle at 1112.35 and AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was down 1.56% to 511.80 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 871 to 690 and 7 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1402 fell and 1190 advanced, while 154 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.28% to 10.6575.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.06% or 0.80 to $1247.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 2.07% or 0.92 to hit $43.51 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 2.07% or 0.97 to trade at $45.94 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.08% to 64.457, while EUR/INR fell 0.01% to 71.8930.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 97.29.
