Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Technology, IT and Fast Moving Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.52% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.68%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI), which rose 2.13% or 8.75 points to trade at 420.05 at the close. Wipro Ltd (NS:WIPR) added 1.92% or 5.50 points to end at 291.55 and Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI) was up 1.91% or 30.25 points to 1615.25 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY), which lost 2.39% or 66.10 points to trade at 2696.45 in late trade. AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK) declined 1.11% or 6.00 points to end at 534.80 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) shed 0.89% or 5.15 points to 570.80.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which rose 2.20% to 420.20, Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which was up 1.89% to settle at 291.80 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which gained 1.89% to close at 1616.10.
The worst performers were Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which was down 2.44% to 2692.40 in late trade, AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which lost 1.09% to settle at 534.30 and Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was down 0.93% to 547.45 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 825 to 735 and 16 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1360 fell and 1275 advanced, while 168 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.05% to 11.3125.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.13% or 1.57 to $1256.47 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.16% or 0.53 to hit $46.30 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.37% or 0.66 to trade at $48.72 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.18% to 64.360, while EUR/INR fell 0.13% to 74.9957.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 93.75.
