Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Industrials, Financials and Materials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.32%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Detour Gold Corporation (TO:DGC), which rose 3.03% or 0.41 points to trade at 13.95 at the close. TELUS Corporation (TO:T) added 3.02% or 1.38 points to end at 47.10 and Colliers International Group Inc (TO:CIGI) was up 2.62% or 1.80 points to 70.55 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Eldorado Gold Corporation (TO:ELD), which lost 11.64% or 0.22 points to trade at 1.67 in late trade. Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb) declined 4.86% or 0.140 points to end at 2.740 and Secure Energy Services Inc . (TO:SES) shed 3.40% or 0.26 points to 7.39.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 654 to 439 and 148 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 5.27% to 11.99.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.04% or 0.55 to $1278.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.46% or 0.24 to hit $52.23 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.24% or 0.14 to trade at $58.47 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.98% to 0.7813, while CAD/EUR fell 1.36% to 0.6618.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.26% at 93.59.
