Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Banking, Fast Moving Consumer Goods and Oil & Gas sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty added 0.53% to hit a new 1-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.67%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were ITC Ltd (NS:ITC), which rose 2.81% or 9.80 points to trade at 358.35 at the close. Meanwhile, AXIS Bank Ltd. (NS:AXBK) added 2.72% or 13.90 points to end at 525.65 and Cairn India Limited (NS:CAIL) was up 2.46% or 3.80 points to 158.05 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Idea Cellular Ltd (NS:IDEA), which fell 7.54% or 11.45 points to trade at 140.45 at the close. Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) declined 3.34% or 12.40 points to end at 359.10 and Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN) was down 2.81% or 2.95 points to 102.15.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which rose 2.81% to 525.70, ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was up 2.81% to settle at 358.30 and Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which gained 2.11% to close at 326.00.
The worst performers were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was down 3.42% to 358.75 in late trade, Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which lost 2.67% to settle at 102.25 and Larsen & Toubro Limited (BO:LART) which was down 2.58% to 1510.30 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 820 to 630 and 10 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 469 fell and 312 advanced, while 4 ended unchanged.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was down 2.59% to 16.1925 a new 1-month low.
Gold for December delivery was up 0.39% or 4.50 to $1170.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.00% or 0.01 to hit $45.38 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.43% or 0.20 to trade at $48.28 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.11% to 64.930, while EUR/INR rose 0.04% to 72.0800.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.06% at 96.50.
