Investing.com – Belgium equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Financials, Consumer Goods and Industrials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Brussels, the BEL 20 fell 0.44%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the BEL 20 were bpost NV (BR:BPOST), which rose 2.46% or 0.18 points to trade at 7.49 at the close. Umicore SA (BR:UMI) added 2.41% or 0.84 points to end at 35.70 and Proximus NV (BR:PROX) was up 1.67% or 0.39 points to 23.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Galapagos NV (AS:GLPG), which lost 5.53% or 5.080 points to trade at 86.780 in late trade. Argen-X (BR:ARGX) declined 3.84% or 3.50 points to end at 87.60 and Sofina (BR:SOF) shed 2.12% or 3.60 points to 166.40.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 68 to 40 and 17 ended unchanged on the Brussels Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.06% or 0.70 to $1252.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 4.88% or 2.45 to hit $47.75 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 3.72% or 2.22 to trade at $57.39 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.19% to 1.1368, while EUR/GBP fell 0.10% to 0.8986.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 96.488.
