Brazil shares lower at close of trade; Bovespa down 0.28%

Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Financials, Public Utilities and Telecoms sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa declined 0.28%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were BRF SA (SA:BRFS3), which rose 6.50% or 1.54 points to trade at 25.24 at the close. Smiles Fidelidade SA (SA:SMLS3) added 3.69% or 1.67 points to end at 46.90 and Klabin Unt (SA:KLBN11) was up 3.00% or 0.58 points to 19.90 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Via Varejo SA (SA:VVAR3), which lost 5.84% or 0.35 points to trade at 5.64 in late trade. Cielo SA (SA:CIEL3) declined 4.61% or 0.54 points to end at 11.18 and Itau Unibanco Banco Holding SA (SA:ITUB4) shed 4.26% or 1.69 points to 38.00.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 219 to 195 and 41 ended unchanged on the BM&FBovespa Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 1.89% to 30.71.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.06% or 0.85 to $1318.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.52% or 0.83 to hit $53.73 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract fell 0.76% or 0.80 to trade at $104.80 .

USD/BRL was down 0.00% to 3.6685, while EUR/BRL fell 0.24% to 4.1857.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.25% at 95.812.
