Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Telecoms and Public Utilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa fell 2.29%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Ambev SA (SA:ABEV3), which rose 4.60% or 0.79 points to trade at 17.95 at the close. Raia Drogasil SA (SA:RADL3) added 4.53% or 2.82 points to end at 65.11 and Engie Brasil Energia SA (SA:EGIE3) was up 3.81% or 1.60 points to 43.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Vale SA (SA:VALE3), which lost 24.52% or 13.77 points to trade at 42.38 in late trade. Bradespar SA (SA:BRAP4) declined 24.49% or 8.57 points to end at 26.43 and Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3) shed 5.69% or 0.59 points to 9.78.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 259 to 207 and 21 ended unchanged on the BM&FBovespa Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 4.51% to 33.83.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.30% or 3.85 to $1301.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 2.85% or 1.53 to hit $52.16 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract fell 4.12% or 4.40 to trade at $102.40 .
USD/BRL was down 0.20% to 3.7619, while EUR/BRL fell 0.02% to 4.2987.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 95.433.
