Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the IT, Consumer Discretionary and Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.06%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Baytex Energy Corp (TO:BTE), which rose 6.12% or 0.15 points to trade at 2.60 at the close. TORC Oil & Gas Ltd. (TO:TOG) added 6.12% or 0.30 points to end at 5.20 and Badger Daylighting Ltd . (TO:BAD) was up 5.00% or 1.48 points to 31.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb), which lost 19.86% or 0.415 points to trade at 1.675 in late trade. Aphria Inc (TO:APHA) declined 6.35% or 0.860 points to end at 12.690 and Boyd Group Income Fund (TO:BYD_u) shed 4.63% or 5.32 points to 109.63.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 637 to 499 and 100 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 4.02% to 17.42.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.88% or 22.60 to $1221.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.60% or 0.34 to hit $56.80 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.51% or 0.34 to trade at $66.96 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.16% to 0.7601, while CAD/EUR fell 0.61% to 0.6658.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.49% at 96.32.
