Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Healthcare, Energy and IT sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.16%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Canopy Growth Corp (TO:WEED), which rose 8.00% or 4.690 points to trade at 63.320 at the close. Seven Generations Energy Ltd (TO:VII) added 6.88% or 1.05 points to end at 16.31 and NexGen Energy Ltd. (TO:NXE) was up 6.55% or 0.180 points to 2.930 in late trade.
Biggest losers included MTY Food Group Inc (TO:MTY), which lost 3.89% or 2.50 points to trade at 61.75 in late trade. New Gold Inc (TO:NGD) declined 3.70% or 0.040 points to end at 1.040 and Martinrea International Inc . (TO:MRE) shed 3.42% or 0.49 points to 13.83.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 624 to 485 and 125 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.01% to 13.67.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.39% or 4.70 to $1202.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 1.32% or 0.99 to hit $76.22 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 1.38% or 1.17 to trade at $85.97 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.28% to 0.7776, while CAD/EUR rose 0.10% to 0.6759.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.38% at 95.49.
