Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the IT, REITs and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.18%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Cineplex Inc . (TSX:CGX), which rose 10.81% or 0.89 points to trade at 9.12 at the close. Boardwalk REIT (TSX:BEI_u) added 5.08% or 1.54 points to end at 31.88 and Lightspeed POS Inc (TSX:LSPD) was up 4.76% or 1.85 points to 40.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Teck Resources Ltd B (TSX:TECKb), which lost 6.63% or 1.11 points to trade at 15.62 in late trade. Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP) declined 5.74% or 1.21 points to end at 19.87 and Enerplus Corporation (TSX:ERF) shed 4.79% or 0.19 points to 3.78.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 533 to 503 and 132 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.59% or 11.60 to $1958.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 0.79% or 0.34 to hit $42.77 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.01% or 0.46 to trade at $44.91 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.30% to 0.7589, while CAD/EUR rose 0.13% to 0.6399.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.15% at 92.743.
