Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Industrials, Energy and IT sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.23%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aecon Group Inc . (TO:ARE), which rose 19.43% or 3.21 points to trade at 19.73 at the close. ECN Capital Corp (TO:ECN) added 5.91% or 0.23 points to end at 4.12 and Air Canada (TO:AC) was up 4.62% or 1.200 points to 27.200 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Teck Resources Ltd B (TO:TECKb), which lost 8.44% or 2.47 points to trade at 26.81 in late trade. Barrick Gold Corporation (TO:ABX) declined 7.68% or 1.55 points to end at 18.64 and Firstservice Corp (TO:FSV) shed 4.09% or 3.75 points to 87.94.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 550 to 542 and 138 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.50% to 12.01.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.79% or 10.12 to $1268.88 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 1.05% or 0.55 to hit $52.73 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 1.73% or 1.01 to trade at $59.45 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.43% to 0.7782, while CAD/EUR rose 0.92% to 0.6677.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 1.10% at 94.56.
