Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Healthcare, REITs and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.41%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAAC), which rose 8.59% or 0.45 points to trade at 5.69 at the close. Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY) added 6.45% or 0.16 points to end at 2.64 and Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAC) was up 5.79% or 0.30 points to 5.48 in late trade.
Biggest losers included International Petroleum Corp (TSX:IPCO), which lost 5.50% or 0.79 points to trade at 13.57 in late trade. Energy Fuels Inc. (TSX:EFR) declined 2.67% or 0.27 points to end at 9.84 and FirstService Corp (TSX:FSV) shed 2.44% or 5.54 points to 221.49.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 512 to 435 and 110 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 7.48% to 11.88.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.43% or 8.85 to $2,051.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.95% or 0.69 to hit $73.47 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.90% or 0.70 to trade at $78.69 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.41% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.28% to 0.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.27% at 104.04.
