Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Clean Technology, IT and Consumer Discretionary sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.49%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Great Canadian Gaming Corporation (TSX:GC), which rose 10.89% or 4.34 points to trade at 44.20 at the close. Silvercorp Metals Inc (TSX:SVM) added 7.29% or 0.38 points to end at 5.59 and Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP) was up 6.24% or 0.89 points to 15.15 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX:ACB), which lost 7.96% or 0.180 points to trade at 2.080 in late trade. MEG Energy Corp (TSX:MEG) declined 6.22% or 0.43 points to end at 6.48 and Baytex Energy Corp (TSX:BTE) shed 4.26% or 0.060 points to 1.350.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 527 to 515 and 115 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.20% or 3.15 to $1576.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.41% or 0.71 to hit $49.61 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 2.00% or 1.09 to trade at $53.38 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.09% to 0.7509, while CAD/EUR rose 0.31% to 0.6882.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.18% at 98.745.
