Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Mining, Materials and IT sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.53%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Pan American Silver Corp (TSX:PAAS), which rose 7.99% or 1.86 points to trade at 25.14 at the close. MAG Silver Corp (TSX:MAG) added 7.93% or 1.29 points to end at 17.56 and IAMGold Corporation (TSX:IMG) was up 7.87% or 0.380 points to 5.210 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Canopy Growth Corp (TSX:WEED), which lost 5.94% or 1.970 points to trade at 31.190 in late trade. Aphria Inc (TSX:APHA) declined 5.56% or 0.470 points to end at 7.980 and Birchcliff Energy Ltd . (TSX:BIR) shed 5.38% or 0.10 points to 1.76.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 620 to 462 and 119 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.95% to 14.61.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.99% or 15.25 to $1552.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 3.82% or 2.05 to hit $55.69 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.08% or 0.05 to trade at $59.62 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.01% to 0.7527, while CAD/EUR fell 0.02% to 0.6785.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.11% at 97.885.
