Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the IT, Clean Technology and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.54%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were ECN Capital Corp (TSX:ECN), which rose 9.39% or 0.31 points to trade at 3.61 at the close. Nuvei Corp (TSX:NVEI) added 7.56% or 3.93 points to end at 55.93 and Enghouse Systems Ltd (TSX:ENGH) was up 7.07% or 2.52 points to 38.16 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Precision Drilling Corporation (TSX:PD), which lost 4.14% or 2.99 points to trade at 69.26 in late trade. AltaGas Ltd (TSX:ALA) declined 3.37% or 0.79 points to end at 22.64 and Secure Energy Services Inc . (TSX:SES) shed 2.59% or 0.17 points to 6.40.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 617 to 389 and 90 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.51% to 15.56.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.43% or 8.20 to $1,908.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 4.44% or 3.32 to hit $71.48 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.04% or 0.03 to trade at $77.53 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.02% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.01% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 103.25.
