Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Telecoms, Energy and IT sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.55%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Transcontinental Inc (TO:TCLa), which rose 5.54% or 1.67 points to trade at 31.80 at the close. Cenovus Energy Inc (TO:CVE) added 4.26% or 0.58 points to end at 14.19 and Labrador Iron Ore Royalty Corp (TO:LIF) was up 4.21% or 1.00 points to 24.74 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Centerra Gold Inc (TO:CG), which lost 5.99% or 0.41 points to trade at 6.43 in late trade. New Gold Inc (TO:NGD) declined 3.53% or 0.100 points to end at 2.730 and Intertape Polymer Group Inc . (TO:ITP) shed 2.35% or 0.41 points to 17.04.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 628 to 430 and 131 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 6.92% to 13.18.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.24% or 3.00 to $1255.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.26% or 0.92 to hit $73.86 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.43% or 0.33 to trade at $77.06 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.30% to 0.7637, while CAD/EUR fell 0.21% to 0.6498.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.42% at 93.73.
