Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Healthcare, Materials and REITs sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.68%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Silvercorp Metals Inc (TSX:SVM), which rose 8.37% or 0.60 points to trade at 7.77 at the close. First Majestic Silver Corp. (TSX:FR) added 7.47% or 1.00 points to end at 14.38 and BRP Inc (TSX:DOO) was up 6.35% or 5.05 points to 84.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Kinaxis Inc (TSX:KXS), which lost 2.49% or 4.37 points to trade at 171.13 in late trade. Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited (TSX:FFH) declined 2.39% or 10.73 points to end at 437.29 and Lundin Gold Inc (TSX:LUG) shed 2.31% or 0.27 points to 11.40.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 681 to 391 and 115 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.39% or 25.45 to $1857.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 1.19% or 0.56 to hit $47.55 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.82% or 0.41 to trade at $50.70 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.48% to 0.7873, while CAD/EUR rose 0.38% to 0.6474.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.31% at 90.373.
