Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Energy, Healthcare and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.72%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Eldorado Gold Corp (TSX:ELD), which rose 12.23% or 0.51 points to trade at 4.68 at the close. Home Capital Group Inc . (TSX:HCG) added 5.09% or 0.95 points to end at 19.63 and Aphria Inc (TSX:APHA) was up 4.55% or 0.450 points to 10.330 in late trade.
Biggest losers included New Gold Inc (TSX:NGD), which lost 4.44% or 0.040 points to trade at 0.860 in late trade. Kirkland Lake Gold Ltd (TSX:KL) declined 4.03% or 1.800 points to end at 42.920 and Torex Gold Resources Inc (TSX:TXG) shed 1.77% or 0.210 points to 11.680.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 547 to 434 and 140 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 16.42% to 11.81.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.06% or 0.80 to $1284.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.06% or 0.62 to hit $59.25 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.79% or 1.21 to trade at $68.68 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.03% to 0.7440, while CAD/EUR rose 0.05% to 0.6643.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.15% at 97.625.
