Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the IT, Industrials and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.77%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were IAMGold Corporation (TO:IMG), which rose 9.38% or 0.300 points to trade at 3.500 at the close. Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb) added 7.50% or 0.150 points to end at 2.150 and Birchcliff Energy Ltd . (TO:BIR) was up 7.20% or 0.26 points to 3.87 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Torex Gold Resources Inc (TO:TXG), which lost 5.98% or 0.760 points to trade at 11.950 in late trade. Eldorado Gold Corp (TO:ELD) declined 4.50% or 0.23 points to end at 4.88 and Onex Corp (TO:ONEX) shed 2.92% or 2.35 points to 78.25.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 661 to 387 and 132 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 8.20% to 14.55.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.84% or 10.90 to $1286.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.79% or 1.11 to hit $63.13 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.07% or 0.05 to trade at $72.81 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.00% to 0.7429, while CAD/EUR rose 0.01% to 0.6648.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.29% at 97.657.
