Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Healthcare, Real Estate and Energy sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.78% to hit a new 3-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were ShawCor Ltd . (TSX:SCL), which rose 44.51% or 1.58 points to trade at 5.13 at the close. Hexo Corp (TSX:HEXO) added 44.44% or 0.480 points to end at 1.560 and Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb) was up 23.40% or 0.110 points to 0.580 in late trade.
Biggest losers included NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX:NG), which lost 11.60% or 1.41 points to trade at 10.75 in late trade. Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc (TSX:ATDb) declined 3.66% or 1.58 points to end at 41.54 and Tourmaline Oil Corp . (TSX:TOU) shed 3.49% or 0.48 points to 13.27.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 866 to 228 and 85 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.30% or 21.90 to $1704.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 3.62% or 1.43 to hit $38.12 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 3.71% or 1.57 to trade at $40.73 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.39% to 0.7476, while CAD/EUR rose 0.36% to 0.6620.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.24% at 96.685.
