Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Materials, IT and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 1.29%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO:IVN), which rose 10.73% or 0.310 points to trade at 3.200 at the close. First Majestic Silver Corp. (TO:FR) added 9.43% or 0.61 points to end at 7.08 and Tahoe Resources Inc (TO:THO) was up 7.63% or 0.37 points to 5.22 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Canopy Growth Corp (TO:WEED), which lost 4.51% or 1.270 points to trade at 26.900 in late trade. Emera Incorporated (TO:EMA) declined 4.13% or 1.79 points to end at 41.53 and Aphria Inc (TO:APH) shed 2.74% or 0.440 points to 15.640.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 891 to 250 and 99 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0.00% to 21.65 a new 52-week high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.68% or 8.90 to $1324.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.19% or 0.11 to hit $59.31 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.24% or 0.15 to trade at $62.64 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.09% to 0.7940, while CAD/EUR fell 0.43% to 0.6459.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.22% at 90.02.
