Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Clean Technology, REITs and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 1.40%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were ShawCor Ltd . (TSX:SCL), which rose 35.85% or 0.95 points to trade at 3.60 at the close. Secure Energy Services Inc . (TSX:SES) added 12.93% or 0.19 points to end at 1.66 and Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP) was up 10.68% or 1.75 points to 18.13 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Centerra Gold Inc (TSX:CG), which lost 4.95% or 0.68 points to trade at 13.06 in late trade. Pretium Resources Inc. (TSX:PVG) declined 4.72% or 0.55 points to end at 11.11 and Torex Gold Resources Inc (TSX:TXG) shed 3.42% or 0.60 points to 16.93.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 801 to 242 and 86 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.09% or 1.60 to $1738.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.22% or 0.08 to hit $36.42 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.88% or 0.34 to trade at $38.89 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.20% to 0.7352, while CAD/EUR rose 0.62% to 0.6533.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.41% at 97.138.
