Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Materials, IT and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 1.54%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Endeavour Silver Corp. (TSX:EDR), which rose 14.35% or 0.64 points to trade at 5.10 at the close. Lightspeed Commerce Inc (TSX:LSPD) added 10.57% or 3.35 points to end at 35.03 and Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAC) was up 9.96% or 2.84 points to 31.36 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Cogeco Communications Inc (TSX:CCA), which lost 4.08% or 4.26 points to trade at 100.17 in late trade. Quebecor Inc Class B (TSX:QBRb) declined 2.83% or 0.81 points to end at 27.85 and Imperial Oil Ltd (TSX:IMO) shed 1.94% or 1.37 points to 69.20.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 777 to 257 and 94 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 4.68% to 17.50 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.28% or 23.75 to $1,872.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.83% or 2.11 to hit $117.37 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.57% or 1.83 to trade at $118.12 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.66% to 0.80, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.22% to 0.74.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.73% at 101.78.
