Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the REITs, Real Estate and Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.06%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Silvercorp Metals Inc (TSX:SVM), which rose 6.27% or 0.440 points to trade at 7.460 at the close. HudBay Minerals Inc (TSX:HBM) added 5.80% or 0.28 points to end at 5.11 and NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX:NG) was up 5.67% or 0.50 points to 9.32 in late trade.
Biggest losers included BRP Inc (TSX:DOO), which lost 5.37% or 3.42 points to trade at 60.30 in late trade. Northwest Healthcare Properties REIT (TSX:NWH_u) declined 4.81% or 0.61 points to end at 12.08 and Hudson's Bay Company (TSX:HBC) shed 3.99% or 0.35 points to 8.43.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 534 to 528 and 128 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 5.58% to 14.56.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.79% or 11.65 to $1479.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.68% or 0.40 to hit $58.84 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.75% or 0.48 to trade at $63.86 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.45% to 0.7593, while CAD/EUR rose 0.08% to 0.6819.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.29% at 97.100.
