Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Materials, Healthcare and IT sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.28%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Chemtrade Logistics Income Fund (TSX:CHE_u), which rose 4.71% or 0.46 points to trade at 10.23 at the close. Gran Tierra Energy Inc (TSX:GTE) added 3.66% or 0.070 points to end at 1.980 and Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb) was up 2.70% or 0.060 points to 2.280 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Russel Metals Inc . (TSX:RUS), which lost 3.62% or 0.79 points to trade at 21.05 in late trade. NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX:NG) declined 3.32% or 0.25 points to end at 7.28 and Wheaton Precious Metals Corp (TSX:WPM) shed 2.97% or 0.94 points to 30.66.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 603 to 470 and 106 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.64% to 10.07 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 1.36% or 19.30 to $1401.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.68% or 0.39 to hit $57.73 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.85% or 1.17 to trade at $64.47 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.20% to 0.7644, while CAD/EUR rose 0.33% to 0.6811.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.52% at 96.835.
