Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Energy, REITs and Telecoms sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.28%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Altus Group Limited (TSX:AIF), which rose 19.97% or 8.29 points to trade at 49.80 at the close. Exchange Income Corporation (TSX:EIF) added 10.75% or 3.11 points to end at 32.03 and Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (TSX:WDO) was up 9.85% or 1.24 points to 13.83 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Great Canadian Gaming Corporation (TSX:GC), which lost 7.11% or 2.15 points to trade at 28.10 in late trade. Crescent Point Energy Corp . (TSX:CPG) declined 3.72% or 0.10 points to end at 2.59 and Inter Pipeline Ltd (TSX:IPL) shed 3.71% or 0.55 points to 14.27.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 583 to 475 and 117 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.61% or 11.90 to $1960.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.70% or 0.30 to hit $42.37 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.70% or 0.32 to trade at $45.11 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.27% to 0.7568, while CAD/EUR rose 0.03% to 0.6406.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.16% at 93.263.
