Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Telecoms, Real Estate and REITs sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.29%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Kinross Gold Corporation (TSX:K), which rose 7.15% or 0.88 points to trade at 13.19 at the close. Methanex Corporation (TSX:MX) added 5.73% or 1.80 points to end at 33.19 and Winpak Ltd. (TSX:WPK) was up 4.57% or 2.01 points to 45.97 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Corus Entertainment Inc (TSX:CJRb), which lost 7.89% or 0.25 points to trade at 2.92 in late trade. OceanaGold Corporation (TSX:OGC) declined 6.52% or 0.180 points to end at 2.580 and Air Canada (TSX:AC) shed 5.62% or 1.07 points to 17.98.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 518 to 500 and 132 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.42% or 8.20 to $1958.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 0.32% or 0.13 to hit $40.84 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.85% or 0.37 to trade at $42.93 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.20% to 0.7580, while CAD/EUR fell 0.16% to 0.6399.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 92.990.
