Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Healthcare, Clean Technology and IT sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.30%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Jamieson Wellness Inc (TSX:JWEL), which rose 4.14% or 1.47 points to trade at 37.00 at the close. Gfl Environmental Inc (TSX:GFL) added 2.47% or 1.11 points to end at 46.00 and Loblaw Companies Limited (TSX:L) was up 2.39% or 2.15 points to 91.94 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP), which lost 7.93% or 1.70 points to trade at 19.75 in late trade. First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM) declined 6.75% or 1.73 points to end at 23.89 and Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAC) shed 6.37% or 1.79 points to 26.31.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 594 to 422 and 109 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.35% or 6.35 to $1792.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.48% or 1.01 to hit $69.36 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 1.38% or 0.99 to trade at $72.68 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.23% to 0.7890, while CAD/EUR fell 0.08% to 0.6672.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.16% at 92.662.
