Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Energy, Healthcare and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.47%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB), which rose 8.02% or 0.42 points to trade at 5.66 at the close. Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP) added 5.86% or 0.78 points to end at 14.10 and Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP) was up 5.84% or 40.92 points to 741.42 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Enerplus Corporation (TSX:ERF), which lost 10.94% or 0.29 points to trade at 2.36 in late trade. Husky Energy Inc . (TSX:HSE) declined 9.55% or 0.38 points to end at 3.60 and Vermilion Energy Inc . (TSX:VET) shed 9.34% or 0.47 points to 4.56.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 600 to 473 and 87 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.30% or 5.30 to $1734.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 1.36% or 0.27 to hit $19.60 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.84% or 0.51 to trade at $28.20 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.02% to 0.7085, while CAD/EUR rose 0.69% to 0.6537.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.67% at 100.148.
