Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Energy, Healthcare and Consumer Discretionary sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.95%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Centerra Gold Inc (TSX:CG), which rose 6.32% or 0.63 points to trade at 10.60 at the close. Alacer Gold Corp (TSX:ASR) added 5.42% or 0.32 points to end at 6.22 and Cott Corp (TSX:BCB) was up 4.44% or 0.86 points to 20.25 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Methanex Corporation (TSX:MX), which lost 7.60% or 3.53 points to trade at 42.91 in late trade. Westshore Terminals Investment Corp (TSX:WTE) declined 6.84% or 1.18 points to end at 16.08 and First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM) shed 5.90% or 0.65 points to 10.36.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 768 to 291 and 108 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.21% or 3.30 to $1586.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.98% or 0.51 to hit $51.63 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 1.20% or 0.69 to trade at $56.64 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.19% to 0.7557, while CAD/EUR fell 0.71% to 0.6813.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.52% at 97.195.
