Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Energy, Mining and IT sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.54%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Trilogy Energy Corp (TO:TET), which rose 19.24% or 0.71 points to trade at 4.40 at the close. Meanwhile, Labrador Iron Ore Royalty Corp (TO:LIF) added 8.59% or 1.02 points to end at 12.90 and Teck Resources Ltd (TO:TCKb) was up 7.14% or 0.63 points to 9.45 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Home Capital Group Inc . (TO:HCG), which fell 6.35% or 1.85 points to trade at 27.30 at the close. Russel Metals Inc . (TO:RUS) declined 5.66% or 1.10 points to end at 18.35 and First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TO:FM) was down 4.33% or 0.50 points to 11.06.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 757 to 603 and 194 ended unchanged.
Shares in Home Capital Group Inc. (TO:HCG) fell to 52-week lows; falling 6.35% or 1.85 to 27.30. Shares in Russel Metals Inc. (TO:RUS) fell to 5-year lows; falling 5.66% or 1.10 to 18.35. Shares in First Quantum Minerals Ltd. (TO:FM) fell to 5-year lows; down 4.33% or 0.50 to 11.06.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.71% to 13.49.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.15% or 1.60 to $1095.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.63% or 0.30 to hit $47.69 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.76% or 0.41 to trade at $53.06 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.80% to 0.7730, while CAD/EUR rose 1.07% to 0.6992.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.15% at 96.77.
