Investing.com – Greece equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Food, Banking and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Athens, the Athens General-Composite rose 0.85% to hit a new 6-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Athens General-Composite were Select Textile (AT:EPIr), which rose 8.23% or 0.013 points to trade at 0.171 at the close. National Bank of Greece (AT:NBGr) added 4.00% or 0.01 points to end at 0.26 and Alpha Bank SA (AT:ACBr) was up 3.65% or 0.070 points to 1.990 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Selonda Aquaculture SA (AT:SELr), which lost 9.50% or 0.0170 points to trade at 0.1620 in late trade. Centric Hold (AT:DESr) declined 4.76% or 0.005 points to end at 0.100 and Bank of Cyprus PCL (AT:BOCr) shed 3.10% or 0.004 points to 0.125.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 64 to 38 and 14 ended unchanged on the Athens Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was down 0.45% or 5.25 to $1172.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.92% or 0.46 to hit $50.23 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.72% or 0.38 to trade at $53.38 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 1.40% to 1.0604, while EUR/GBP fell 0.93% to 0.8439.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.98% at 101.26.
