Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Technology and IT sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.06%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.06%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS), which rose 2.51% or 25.30 points to trade at 1036.70 at the close. Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) added 2.32% or 6.00 points to end at 265.15 and UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC) was up 2.13% or 79.80 points to 3840.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO), which lost 4.34% or 12.55 points to trade at 276.85 in late trade. Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI) declined 2.60% or 26.15 points to end at 978.95 and Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) shed 1.85% or 11.30 points to 599.50.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Coal India Ltd (BO:COAL) which rose 2.30% to 265.00, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was up 1.77% to settle at 1852.70 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which gained 1.68% to close at 8940.00.
The worst performers were Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which was down 4.31% to 277.35 in late trade, Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which lost 2.48% to settle at 978.70 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was down 1.82% to 191.45 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1112 to 477 and 49 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1729 fell and 814 advanced, while 127 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.71% to 12.7975.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.74% or 9.40 to $1259.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.16% or 0.11 to hit $67.97 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.19% or 0.14 to trade at $74.69 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.10% to 68.195, while EUR/INR fell 0.23% to 79.5381.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.27% at 94.20.
